Athene noctua | Little Owl (EN) | Mocho-galego (PT)
Little indeed, this owl inhabits much of the temperate and warmer parts of Europe. Feeds mostly on insects, small rodents and plant matter, but smaller birds and frogs are also an important food source during the breeding season, that happens from March to August.
One of 100 bird species I illustrated as part of a series where I set out to draw 100 birds from Portugal. On that series I selected native birds and also birds that see Portugal as their home during their migrating journeys across Europe, Africa, and sometimes further away.
This series took me 22 Â months to complete and I have now selected some of my favourites to offer as A5 prints, a size similar to the original drawing.
Originally hand-drawn on my sketchbook using watercolour and pastel pencils.
Size: A5 (21cm x 14,8cm)
