Lophophanes cristatus | Crested Tit (EN) | Chapim-de-poupa (PT)
This mostly resident species breeds in mixed-conifer montane forests here in Portugal, but it is nomadic in the winter. It breeds from March to June, forming a lifelong pair bond with its partner, and laying 5 to 7 eggs in each breeding season.Â
One of 100 bird species I illustrated as part of a series where I set out to draw 100 birds from Portugal. On that series I selected native birds and also birds that see Portugal as their home during their migrating journeys across Europe, Africa, and sometimes from further away.
This series took me 22 Â months to complete and I have now selected some of my favourites to offer as A5 prints, a size similar to the original drawing.
Originally hand-drawn on my sketchbook using watercolour and pastel pencils.
Size: A5 (21cm x 14,8cm)
